England’s North West

Map of the North West region courtesy of NWDAThe Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) asked PRIME to help make the North West region a beacon for over-50’s enterprise support. The result is this innovative consultancy project, which seeks to multiply the impact of PRIME’s understanding of older enterprise by transferring knowledge to other players in the region.

The ultimate objective is to enable more individuals over 50 to find a good livelihood through self-employment. But the approach is indirect. The immediate goal is to influence organisations in a position to offer business support in the region, so they know how to reach and effectively assist more of over 50s, who the NWDA has identified as an overlooked group.

The main partners are therefore the NWDA itself, SRPs, Business Link Northwest and other mainstream business support providers - and only through them individual clients. In other areas of the UK PRIME works directly with older entrepreneurs, which is where the expertise it is passing on comes from.

The project has been designed with plenty of input from NWDA on the best way to transfer this knowledge. Specific examples include PRIME’s understanding of how to reach potential entrepreneurs among the over 50 population, how to engage with them and help them overcome typical barriers. Specific tools include PRIME’s client segmentation and engagement models.

Funding
The Project is funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA).
